How Do You Ship Chicks In the Mail?Updated 4 months ago

Newly hatched chicks have their 3-day supply of yolk still in their system to sustain them for their trip to your home. We ship every Monday and Wednesday using USPS and your birds should arrive at your post office or mailing address within 1 to 3 days. Your confirmation notice will give you your hatch/ship date.

You should be very flexible around your delivery date so you can take your birds immediately to your brooder to be warmed up so they will start eating and drinking.

When chicks hatch at The Chicken Coop Company, they are immediately prepared for shipping. The newly hatched chicks have a natural 3-day supply of yolk still in their system, which sustains them during their trip5. This biological feature allows the chicks to survive without food or water for the duration of their journey, which typically takes 1-3 days.

Shipping Schedule

  • Monday shipments: Scheduled to arrive no later than Wednesday
  • Wednesday shipments: Scheduled to arrive no later than Saturday

This schedule is designed to avoid weekend layovers at postal facilities, ensuring the chicks don't spend unnecessary time in transit.

Delivery Expectations

The United States Postal Service (USPS) delivers 98% of all chick orders on the second day after shipping. For example:

  • Chicks shipped on Monday should arrive at the local post office on Wednesday morning
  • Chicks shipped on Wednesday should arrive at the local post office on Friday morning

It's important to note that while Chicken Coop Company aims for prompt delivery, they are ultimately at the mercy of the USPS for actual delivery times. Customers are advised to be flexible around the delivery date and prepared to receive the chicks immediately upon arrival.

By shipping chicks on the day they hatch and carefully scheduling shipments, The Chicken Coop Company strives to ensure the best possible chance of survival for the baby chicks during transit.
